The sounds of a new day in the African bush. This album was recorded in Northern Tuli Game Reserve in Botswana and features the diverse sounds of birds and wildlife in an ecotone of mopane scrub and arid savanna.
The album begins in the dim light of dawn and the first ten minutes of the recording capture the transition from night to day with Black-backed Jackals howling along with the whoops of a Spotted Hyena and roars of lions in the distance. Double-banded Sandgrouse call as they fly overhead and White-browed Scrub Robins chatter from nearby shrubs. The wild alarm calls of Chacma Baboons can be heard in the background as the morning brightens.
From around 09:20 the birdsong begins to intensify, the ubiquitous calls of Ring-necked Dove form a constant rhythm to the morning soundscape. The bush becomes active with a diverse range of birds including Laughing Dove, White-browed Sparrow-weaver, Southern Grey-headed Sparrow, Meve’s Starling, White-browed Scrub Robin, Tropical Boubou and the striking Crimson-breasted Shrike.
