Trip Update: Albert’s Lyrebird in the Border Ranges, NSW, Australia

by | Jul 20, 2013 | Australia

Here’s a sample of Albert’s Lyrebird (Menura alberti) recorded a few days ago in the beautiful Border Ranges National Park, northern NSW, Australia.

A lesser-known cousin to the famous Superb Lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae), Albert’s Lyrebird is a rare, localized species with a spectacular voice. In July, the misty mountain rainforests of the Border Ranges are alive with the song of male Albert’s Lyrebirds, so I didn’t have too much trouble finding and recording them – more audio samples to follow soon!
