Trip Update: Winter Woodland, Kings Plains National Park, NSW, Australia

by | Jul 20, 2013 | Australia

Another sample from last week’s bush trip. This one is from Kings Plains National Park(near Glen Innes, north-east NSW), a small but beautiful reserve protecting one’s of south-east Australia’s few remaining areas of pristine eucalyptus woodland.

Despite the frozen -3 degree celsius mornings (that is very cold for us here in Australia!), birdlife was abundant. As soon as the sunlight warmed the crisp air, the birds became very active and vocal.

I think it must be the small flock of Buff-rumped Thornbills which sound almost like hummingbirds as the flutter around near the microphone.
