Australian King Parrot (Alisterus scapularis)

Australian King Parrot (Alisterus scapularis)

The Australian King Parrot (Alisterus scapularis) is a colourful species of parrot found in eastern Australia. They mainly inhabit wet sclerophyll forest and rainforest, although they can be found in drier open woodland in parts of their range, as well as in suburban parks and gardens with suitable habitat.

What does an Australian King Parrot sound like? Australian King Parrots make loud squeaky upslurred whistles, often given as a series. In flight they make harsh brassy ‘chyeuk’ calls. Juvenile Australian King Parrots make repetitive noisy grating squawks when begging.
