Black-throated Loon (Gavia arctica)

The Black-throated Loon (Gavia arctica) is a medium-sized loon found in northern Europe and the far north of parts of Asia. This species is also known as the the Arctic Loon or Black-throated Diver.
What does a loon sound like? The song of the male Black-throated Loon is an iconic sound of the boreal lakes and wetlands of far northern Europe. Song phrases consist of a series of powerful, resonant plaintive cries with syllables rising in pitch “co clooo-eee, co clooo-eee, co clooo-eee”. This species also makes a range of other sounds inclduing a hoarse grunting “karr” call, mournful cries and harsh quacking notes.
