The Eurasian Magpie (Pica pica) [also known as the Common Magpie or simply ‘Magpie] is a member of the crow family and is a common bird throughout the United Kingdom, much of Europe and across the northern part of the Asian continent.

What does a Eurasian Magpie sound like? Eurasian Magpies make a range of different sounds, their most commonly heard call is a loud, harsh chattering “chak-chak-chak-chak…..”. They also give shorter “ch-tak” calls and higher-pitched squeaky ‘chuik’ phrases. Soft, warbling mechanical songs are also occasionally given by this species which often include squealing sounds and sometimes mimicry of others bird calls.
