The thin, silvery song of the European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) has to be one of the most beautiful bird sounds of Europe and the United Kingdom. It is also one of the few birds in this region that sings all year round.

What does a Eurasian Robin sound like? European Robin song phrases are highly variable, but usually include a short melodious warbled passage along with several drawn out, fading notes. Occasionally mimicry is including within the song. Apart from the song, European Robins make a range of other vocalisations including subsong, ‘tic’ calls and high-pitched ‘tsiiip’ sounds in alarm.

The European Robin is also known colloquially as ‘robin’, ‘robin red-breast’ and ‘red-breasted robin’.
