Red-rumped Parrot
Calls & Sounds
The Red-rumped Parrot (Psephotus haematonotus) is a small, colourful species of grass parrot found in south-eastern Australia. It’s commonly seen feeding on the ground in open habitats such as farmland, woodland, parks and gardens.
What does a Red-rumped Parrot sound like? Red-rumped Parrots make a variety of bright, high-pitched chirps and whistles including a shrill “suweet-weet” given both in flight and while perched. They also make squeaky single note calls, tinkling and rattling sounds as well as sweet tumbling chattering phrases and chortles. During courtship, males chatter constantly while displaying and fanning their tails.
