A rich morning soundscape recorded on the banks of the Cuyabeno River deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The magical sounds of Russet-backed Oropendolas (Psarocolius angustifrons) can be heard throughout this recording with their melodic, liquid burbling song phrases. A colony of oropendolas had built their hanging basket nests in a stand of palms nearby and singing male birds would often accompany their song with elaborate bow displays, where the bird leans forward with fluttering wings and seemingly almost falls off the perch while singing!
