New Album: Andalucian Dawn
A new album is now available – “Andalucian Dawn”! This album was recorded in late spring in the temperate forests of the Sierra de las Nieves, Andalucia, Spain. Bumblebees are buzzing, and the warm air is full of birdsong. The album begins in the...
Birdsong of Thailand’s Deciduous Forest – Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary
After several days in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary in western Thailand, I’m very happy with soundscapes I’ve recorded so far. While I still have plenty of material to review, here’s a sample recorded in dry dipterocarp forest in the reserve. In...
Blackcap & Bumblebees
Early summer in the Serrania de Ronda, Spain, and the Bumblebees are busy collecting pollen from flowering shrubs. A Blackcap sings sweetly nearby, and a Blackbird perches near the microphones then descends to the ground to forage in the leaf litter. ← Previous...
New Album – Storm in Sinharaja
Last month, Rachel & I were planning to visit Thailand en-route to the UK, but due to the political situation/ military coup had to re-route our trip. After some frantic last minute cancellations & re-bookings, we found ourselves on a flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Dawn in Mallee Country
Round Hill & Nombinnie Nature Reserves protect vital mallee habitat in western NSW, Australia. Spring is a great time to visit these areas, and if you can handle the frosty mornings, the intense dawn chorus of the mallee country is amazing. Species recorded...
Relax by a Mountain Stream – Bukit Fraser, Malaysia
Recorded in montane rainforest in the Malaysia highlands. The deep ‘whoo-oom woop’ of Mountain Imperial Pigeon can be heard above the gentle stream. A Rufous-browed Flycatcher makes the ticking call as it hunts in the undergrowth, and a Fire-tufted Barbet...
The Beast of Dunn’s Swamp
For the early Australian settlers, camping in the bush must have been a frightening experience. With limited knowledge of Australian fauna, their imaginations no doubt ran wild when hearing some of the rather disconcerting sounds of the bush at night – such as...
