African Barred Owlet
Call & Sounds
The African Barred Owlet (Glaucidium capense) is small species of owl found through much of eastern, central and southern Africa, and parts of West Africa. Like other Glaucidium owlets, the African Barred Owlet is often active in the daylight hours and can sometimes be heard calling during the day.
What does a African Barred Owlet sound like? African Barred Owlets have a few different vocalizations. The whistled song is a long series of downslurred plaintive whistles which accelerate and transition into more churry, purring notes. This species also makes a shorter series of purring trills. Other calls include soft whistles and croaking sounds.
