Egyptian Goose
Call & Sounds
The Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) is a species of waterfowl in the sub-family Tadornae [shelducks] native to sub-Saharan Africa. It has also been introduced to the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom.
What does a Egyptian Goose sound like? The Egyptian Goose is a noisy species which makes a range of grunts, honks, snarls and hissing calls. The vocalizations of the Egyptian Goose are sexually dimorphic: the primary call of the male is a breathy, hoarse scraping note, while the female’s call is a nasal grunting honk. Both sexes can produce hisses when threatened or protecting young. The calls of Egyptian Geese are a common sound of wetlands throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa and can be heard both day and night.
