Greater One-horned Rhinoceros
Sounds & Calls
The Greater One-horned Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis) [also know as the Indian Rhinoceros or Indian Rhino] is found in alluvial floodplains in parts of northern India and the Terai region of Nepal. Like other rhinoceros species, the Greater One-horned Rhinoceros is vulnerable to poaching as their horn is prized in traditional Chinese medicine, and is used as a status symbol to display success and wealth. There is no scientific evidence to support the idea of rhino horn having medicinal qualities.
What does an Indian Rhinoceros sound like? The Indian Rhino makes breathy snorts, roars & bellows, loud mooing honks, soft whistling calls, as well as shrieking sounds.
