Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis)

Male Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis)

The Oriental Magpie-Robin (Copsychus saularis) is a relatively common and widespread species of songbird found in South-east Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Oriental Magpie-Robins suffer from widespread trapping for the cagebird trade and as a result have become more scarce in certain parts of their range.

What does a Oriental Magpie-Robin sound like? The song of the Oriental Magpie-Robin is made up of clear, melodic whistled phrases which often include churrs and slurred notes, and sometimes mimicry. The song is usually given from an exposed perch. Oriental Magpie-Robins make a number of other calls, including a harsh scraping ‘chrrrr’ and a drawn-out rising ‘sweeeee’ whistle.
