The Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus) is a songbird native to South-east Asia and the Indian subcontinent. They have been introduced to a number of other places including Australia, Hawaii, Florida and Mauritius. Red-whiskered Bulbuls have been targeted for trapping and hunting for the Asian cagebird trade, as they are prized for their melodious song.
What does a Red-whiskered Bulbul sound like? Red-whiskered Bulbuls are known for their sweet, cheerful melodious song which consists of warbled, bubbly phrases. Other calls include squeaky single notes, buzzy calls, sharp ‘pips’ and chatter when alarmed.
