Swamp Deer (Barasingha)
Sounds & Calls
The Swamp Deer (Rucervus duvaucelii), commonly known as Barasingha, is a deer species found in parts of the Indian subcontinent. The IUCN classifies Swamp Deer as vulnerable by the IUCN primarily due to the fragmentation of its natural grassland habitat and the conversion of floodplains into agricultural land.
What does a Swamp Deer sound like? Swamp Deer make loud, harsh barking alarm calls when they sense a threat nearby. When rutting, stags make distinctive wavering, gurgling trumpeting calls.
