Australian Raven
Calls & Sounds
The Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides) is a large species of corvid found across much of the Australian continent.
What does an Australian Raven sound like? Australian Ravens make loud drawn-out wailing calls and cawing notes. Studies have shown Australin Ravens to have a complex repertoire of vocalizations. Australian Ravens have calls associated with a number of different functions and behaviour. For example they have a territorial call, warning or aggression sounds, contact calls and even a distinctive sound to signal a bird is returning home after being outside the territory.
Australia has five resident species of corvid, each looking very similar in appearance. The best way to tell them apart is to get to know the subtle differences in their calls and which species are most likely to be present at a particular location.
