Male Brown Songlark (Cincloramphus cruralis)

The Brown Songlark (Cincloramphus cruralis) is a songbird found in open country, grasslands and arid, rocky plains across much of the Australian continent.

What does a Brown Songlark sound like? Brown Songlarks have distinctive songs consisting of electric buzzes, robotic creaking sounds and scratchy metallic notes. The song has a quality that is both mechanical and melodic. During the breeding season, male Brown Songlarks often sing throughout the day in conspicuous song flights to maintain territories. They also sing from exposed perches. At other times of the year Brown Songlarks are relatively quiet apart from occasional chattering calls.
