Restless Flycatcher (Myiagra inquieta)

The Restless Flycatcher (Myiagra inquieta) is a species of songbird found in eastern and southern Australia.

What does a Restless Flycatcher sound like? Restless Flycatchers make a number of different vocalizations including repetitive whistled phrases, harsh buzzing sounds and a bizarre ‘scissors grinder’ call. The ‘scissors grinder’ call consists of mechanical grinding sounds and birds often give this call while hovering as they hunt for insects. It is thought they use the sound to disturb and flush out flying insects.
