Sounds & Calls

Green Catbird (Ailuroedus crassirostris)
Green Catbird (Ailuroedus crassirostris)
The Green Catbird (Ailuroedus crassirostris) is a species of bowerbird found in rainforests from South-east Queensland to coastal southern New South Wales, Australia. Unlike the typical bowerbirds (family Ptilonorhynchidae) Ailuroedus catbirds do not build bowers and pairs raise young together. They are a noisy species, often heard calling at dawn and dusk.

What does a Green Catbird sound like? Green Catbirds make strange wailing calls that sound like a cross between a wailing cat and a newborn baby crying! These distinctive calls are a common sound of subtropical rainforests in south-east Queensland and north-east New South Wales. Green Catbirds also make a few other call types including very high-pitched, sharp ‘tick’ sounds & dry rasping calls.
